Silicic acid chromatography of organic acids in blood cells and biological fluids.

چکیده
The separation of organic acids and their elution from silicic acid columns and their quantitative measurement by color change of buffered indicator, a technique mechanized by Kesner and Muntwyler, are applicable to the study of biological materials. As little as 25 g of acid can be measured. Elution times and color yield in terms of peak areas obtained with the commercial apparatus are given for 25 organic acids. Blood, plasma, red cells, and spinal fluid have been analyzed; specimens were either untreated or extracted with ether. The most abundant acids detected were propionic, lactic, hippuric, and acetic. Methylmalonate was measured in body fluids and blood cells of patients with methylmalonic acidemia and pernicious anemia. Concentrations of organic acids in blood and spinal fluid are given.

Chemical Composition, Fatty Acids Profile and Biological Evaluation of Tannins of Selected Date Seeds Grown in Iran
This study was conducted to evaluate the chemical composition and fatty acids profile of six predominant date seed cultivars grown in Iran including Barhi, Estamaran, Mazafati, Khasi, Kharak and Zahedi and the biological effects of their tannins based on in vitro gas production. Organic matter digestibility (OMD), metabolizable energy (ME) and concentration of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) wer...
متن کاملVolatile carboxylic acid profiling in physiological fluids.
Many inborn errors of metabolism are characterized by an increase in the concentrations of various carboxylic acids in blood and urine. For example, the metabolic disorders propionic acidemia [ 11, methylmalonic aciduria [ 2,3], maple syrup urine disease [4], isovaleric acidemia [ 41 and glutaric aciduria type II [ 5,6] show increased amounts of volatile carboxylic acids in blood or urine. Proc...
متن کاملThe separation of complex lipide mixtures by the use of silicic acid chromatography.
It is now well established that the various lipide classes of blood (1)) liver (2)) and other organs are metabolically dissimilar. The different fatty acids of the diet (3) and within the organism (4) also have been shown to have variable functions and effects. Methods have recently become available for the rapid and precise analysis of these fatty acids (5) and it is reasonable to expect that ...
متن کاملA Description of Reference Ranges for Organic Acids in Urine Samples from A Pediatric Population in Iran
Background: Organic acids refer to a family of compounds that are intermediates in a variety of metabolic pathways. Many organic acids are present in urine from clinically normal individuals. Elevated levels of urine organic acids cause to the organic acidurias, disorders in which some metabolic pathways in organic acid metabolism are blocked. The present work identified major and minor urinary...
متن کاملDevelopment and Validation of a GC-FID Method for Diagnosis of Methylmalonic Acidemia
Background: Urinary organic acids are water-soluble intermediates and end products of the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and a number of other metabolic processes. In the hereditary diseases known as organic acidurias, an enzyme or co-factor defect in a metabolic pathway leads to the accumulation and increased excretion of one or more of these acidic metabolites. Gas chromato...
